Becoming a Pharmacist is neither easy nor difficult. Or, perhaps the better statement should be: Becoming a pharmacist is partly easy, partly difficult. Before one strives to know how to become a pharmacist, it would be better to figure out what a pharmacist is. This way, knowing the ways to become a pharmacist is slightly smooth. A pharmacist is a professional in medical industry. A pharmacist is given the duty to dispense drugs to patients exactly as what the physician or other clinician prescribes. These professional people are equipped with in-depth knowledge in the Chemistry of varying drugs and how these drugs react in human body and with other drugs. Pharmacy requires skills to measure and pack medicines with accuracy to ensure safe dosage that is administered to the patients. Equally important too is their role in educating the patient on how to take the medication prescribed to them and how their body reacts to it as well as how to avoid problems. In our time, becoming a pharmacist requires the person to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy Degree. To begin with, a student can inquire at the educational institution’s admission center to know the step by to become a pharmacist. Usually, an aspiring pharmacy student will have to pass the qualifying exam. After passing the qualifying exam, an interview follows. During this stage, the admission officer or anyone who has similar authority asks questions on why the applicant wants to be a pharmacist. Knowing some challenges on pharmacy in general can also be helpful. Only when the aspiring student passed the interview and exam can she or he enroll in two –year undergraduate coursework. After which, an exam on Pharmacy College Admission Test or PCAT should be passed. This exam along with the 2-year program is essential foundation when looking to this field. The kinds of pharmacy coursework that are pre-requisite to doctor of Pharmacy Degree include chemistry, biology, physics, anatomy and physiology. In addition to this, students of doctor of Pharmacy 4-year degree should complete a series of rotations in different clinical and pharmaceutical settings. The duration and number of rotations vary; however, for the 4-year doctor of pharmacy degree, a requirement of 7-10 rotations, each lasting for 4-6 weeks must be met. If the doctor of pharmacy degree student is determined to complete his goal, setting schedule and plan is crucial. Serious and industrious students can finish the doctor of Pharmacy degree within 6 years. Most doctor of pharmacy students though are not decided to become a pharmacist until such later time in college or after college. However, one motivation to help the doctor of pharmacy student to strive to become a pharmacist is the licensed pharmacist’s salary. Earning a 4-year doctor of pharmacy degree does not stop the process on how to become a pharmacist. There are still many things to accomplish in becoming a pharmacist. Looking for the right pharmacy school is also equally essential.
